THROUGHOUT August the Cornerhouse in Manchester will be celebrating TV and film made in and about the North in their season The North In Lights.
This weekend the cinema will be paying particular atention to the Manchester production company Red, who are responsible for such TV gems as Clocking Off, Linda Green and the groundbeaking Queer As Folk.
Catch the Canal Street boys' first outing (Queer As Folk , Sun, 3.30pm) as the Cornerhouse screens the entire first series.
Alternatively you can indulge in some Factory Fables (Sat, 6.10pm) with the opening episode of Clocking Off, written by Paul Abbot, followed by Making Out, another Northern-based series (not by Red) written by Debbie Horsfield.
If you can't wait that long and fancy something lighthearted then opt for a triple bill of Red Productions with Love, Life and Laughs in Manchester (Tonight - Friday, 6.15pm) which will showcase a contraversial short story from the Love InThe 21st century series, plus the first episode of comedy drama Bob & Rose and episode 10 of Linda Green starring Lisa Tarbuck as the fiesty bar singer with an eye for the fellas.
On Wednesday Manchester Comedy gets suitable acclaim with a selection of episodes from Steve Coogan's brilliant The Paul Calf Diary, The Ice Cream Man Cometh from That Peter Kay Thing and comedy with family vakues in The Royal Family (10.45pm).
