BORMIO 0, Wanderers 13: DELROY Facey marked his first Wanderers appearance with a hat-trick as the Whites destroyed their weak Italian opposition.
The striker, who signed from Huddersfield Town this summer, struck three times in the final 'period' of the match, while fellow front men Michael Ricketts and Dean Holdsworth both bagged braces.
Kevin Nolan also netted twice, while the other goals were shared between Ricardo Gardner, Henrik Pedersen, Ryan Baldachinno and Jermaine Johnson.
The opening fixture of their three-game Italian tour was split into three 30-minute periods to allow both managers to tinker with tactics and formation changes but this failed to disrupt Wanderers' flow as they tore Bormio apart in a classy display.
Ironically, the rout could have been even greater but for an outstanding performance from Bolton trialist Sebastian Chabbert, who sportingly agreed to play in goal for the Italians and stopped the tourists netting another five times.
Wanderers ran up a comfortable six-goal cushion in the first 41 minutes, despite starting the game without World Cup stars Jay-Jay Okocha, Youri Djorkaeff and Stig Tofting.
Heading into the third period, Sam Allardyce made 11 team changes to give Pedersen, Gudni Bergsson and Facey a chance to shine and a further seven goals were rifled home to complete the demolition.
The margin of victory proved significant with Serie A giants Inter Milan, Bolton's opponents this weekend, registering the exact same scoreline against Bormio a fortnight ago.
"It was a thoroughly professional performance from the boys," said assistant manager Phil Brown.
"It was pleasing to keep a clean sheet and to maintain our concentration throughout. The opposition will get harder as the week goes on and we must continue in the same vein."
