AN arsonist piled up rubbish in an empty shop and set it on fire early today.
Firefighters from Farnworth were called out to a former Chinese take-away, in Higher Market Street, Kearsley, just before 4am.
Station officer Paul Norris said: "Someone broke into the property, got a load of rags together and set fire to them.
"We managed to put the fire out before it spread to other properties or there could have been further damage. It appeared this was not the first time a fire had been started in the property."
Police are investigating. Anyone with information should call 0161 872 5050.
