HAVE you needed to "spend a penny" recently, only to find how few public toilets, if any, are available in our local town centres?
Many local authorities, under the guise of cost-cutting measures, are failing to maintain these essential services. One authority, Salford, has completely closed all its public toilet facilities!
The withdrawal of a vital service is a great loss to the whole community, especially parents with small children, the elderly, and visitors alike, and must surely have a knock-on effect as it causes people to curtail -- if not abandon -- any visits to town and city centres for shopping, cultural events and sight-seeing.
If you are affected by this lack of public amenities and would like to know more about our campaign and how you might support us, please contact the secretary at: Greater Manchester Number for the Re-opening of Public Toilets, 72 Hornbeam Court, Salford, M6 5FT. Telephone 0161 736 7640. Email: anguswill@speedyworm.com
