THERE is a God and He's a cyclist.
Three days of glorious weather, either side of some torrential downpours, gave a perfect showcase to Horwich, Rivington, the Commonwealth Games, and to the sport of cycling.
It was an amazing experience, and the reason why I gave my time as a Games Volunteer -- an opportunity to give something back to my sport.
Thanks must go to a multitude of people I know who have worked tirelessly in the background for over three years to produce such a series of events, including the National Road Race a few weeks previously. It was a privilege to work with such a team of professionals.
"If we build it, they will come". And they did, from all over the world. Cyclists, media and spectators. Whoever said the Commonwealth Games was a third rate event should have been there to see races won by world champions, Tour de France stage winners, and seasoned professionals from all around the world. Every one, I know, went away with great memories of superbly hosted events. And all watched by an estimated crowd well over 100,000 for the three events.
We can all have our ordinary lives back now. Horwich can have its town back with thanks, and Rivington can go back to being the beautiful, undisturbed place it is. Melbourne will have to do something extraordinary to match it.
