THE Commonwealth Games may be over but one team of champions is still going for gold. The Royal Oak pub, Westhoughton, has been named as one of the top 20 Brewer's Fayre restaurants in Britain.
Its chefs competed against staff from 396 other pubs across the country to get on to the winners' podium. And they are now trying to beat their personal best by getting into the top 10.
Manager Phillip Dodd said: "It's a great honour to receive such an accolade." The pub underwent three months of intense "grilling" from a squad of mystery diners before winning the award. Staff, who receive £1,000 prize money, will try to win the title of ultimate champions at the end of year finals.
