A WOMAN whose husband is thought to have been lost in Britain's worst fishing disaster has been refused permission to remarry.
Sheila Doone, of Brierfield, was told her husband John disappeared when trawler-ship "Gaul" sank in the Barents Sea during a storm in 1974.
She has received a widow's pension but has been told she cannot marry fiance, Ernest, as John may still be alive.
The couple say other Gaul widows have been allowed to re-marry.
