THE team from the Cheetham Arms pub have a simple philosophy about the great Lancashire Quiz Challenge.

"If you know the answers, then the questions are easy. If you don't, then they are hard," said captain Mike Wood.

Mike, the landlord of the Blackburn Road pub at Sharples, will be joined by team mates Julian, Lynn and Dennis for the quiz which is being recorded tonight by BBC Radio Lancashire and Radio GMR as part of the summer Quiz Challenge. Mike, who runs a quiz every Wednesday at his hostelry, admitted he was not too confident -- especially as the quizmaster is Bolton's own Norman Prince.

But he will have chef Dennis and insurance man Julian to help, along with Lynn, who works for a haulage company and also compiles the pub quiz questions as well as working "front of house".

They will take on a team of printers from Snapes and Co, Preston.

Eight teams from the Bolton area will be taking on teams from East Lancashire. The shows are recorded and then broadcast -- the first on Saturday lunchtime on BBC Radio Lancashire and GMR. This first broadcast is between Moses Gate, Farnworth, and the Royal Oak, Blackburn.

Recordings start at 8.30pm. The next recordings will be held on Tuesday, August 27, at the Lord Raglan pub, Bolton, when they take on Hyndburn Leisure Services from Accrington, and on Wednesday, September 4, when a team from Asda at Astley Bridge, will make the trek to Poulton-le-Fylde to play a team from the Thatched House pub.
