WIGAN skipper Andy Farrell was delighted on hearing his inspirational scrum half Adrian Lam will stay at the JJB Stadium for at least one more year writes Chris Hall
The Papua New Guinea captain has been in breathtaking form of late and will be a strong favourite for the Man of Steel title at the end of the season.
So it came as a massive relief to everyone at the club when he ended months of speculation by taking up the extra year option on his current contract and immediately turned his thoughts to a longer deal.
"I have agreed to stay for next season as my contract allowed but I will also consider staying for a further season after that," he insisted.
"My family are very happy in Wigan and I am enjoying my rugby league."
And no-one was more thrilled to keep the midfield livewire on board than Farrell, who praised Lam for his professionalism on the park amid the distraction of contract talks.
"Adrian's had a season and a half. He's been outstanding," he said.
"The way he has been performing every week and not letting up has been amazing. It's so hard to do when you have the pressure of a new contract on the way.
"Now he can settle down and try to keep playing as well as he has been because I don't think he could possibly get any better."
Coach Stuart Raper was also pleased to have laid the matter to rest after working hard behind the scenes to keep Lam, who has shone as captain since standing in for the injured Farrell in recent weeks.
"It has been ongoing for a while now and I'm glad we can finally make an announcement," said Raper.
"I'm delighted just to have Lammy for this weekend, let alone next season. So it's a great signing for us."
