MORE than 120 people were today receiving treatment for Legionnaires' disease following the biggest outbreak in the UK for more than a decade.
Historically up to 15% of people who contract the disease die from the bug, a form of pneumonia.
So far one person has died following the outbreak which has already seen 92 people - all with links to the Cumbrian town of Barrow-in-Furness - confirmed as suffering from the disease.
Nineteen were in intensive care units across the north west while a further 31 people were currently receiving treatment for suspected cases of the disease.
