WHERE was Mick Buck's bridge?
It was close to the centre of Bolton but most people -- especially the younger ones -- will give you a blank look if you ask them where it was.
Actually, it was a small cast-iron structure which spanned the River Croal off Central Street, and only a few yards from Deansgate.
Why Mick Buck's bridge?
The answer was on the structure itself in the form of a name plate which said "M. Buck and Sons,
Bolton."
Apparently, Michael Buck was a local foundry master whose works manufactured the bridge.
Thus the locals of that day gave it his name.
The bridge has now disappeared and has been replaced by a brick bridge on or near the same site.
