Wanderers boss Sam Allardyce is set to kick off a sponsored walk on Sunday morning to raise cash for the Bolton Coronary Care Appeal.

The Bolton Wanderers manager has promised to bring a couple of his squad members along to give support to hundreds of fans walking from the site of the club's former home, Burnden Park, now demolished, to the Reebok Stadium at Middlebrook.

Their route will also take them past the club's first ground at Pikes Lane.

However, a match against Aston Villa on Sunday afternoon means Sam and his players will not be able to complete the seven-mile trek.

But those who will be putting on their walking shoes will include Bolton's Mayor, Cllr John Walsh; Bolton Evening News editor-in-chief Steve Hughes; and Warburton's managing director, Brett Warburton, who is also Wanderers' deputy chairman and chairman of the Coronary Care Appeal.

The event coincides with Wanderers' 125th anniversary. Soccer legend Nat Lofthouse, who scored two goals against Manchester United in the 1958 FA Cup Final at Wembley, will be at the Reebok to greet the fans.

The walk will start at 10am and walkers are asked to gather in the car park of the Big W, which now stands on the site of the old Burnden Park ground.

The walk is open to all supporters and charity fundraisers. Those not going to the match can catch free buses from the Reebok back to Bolton.

Sponsorship forms can be collected from the Bolton Coronary Care Appeal Office at the Royal Bolton Hospital, the cashier's office at the Royal Bolton Hospital, Bolton Wanderers, or the Mayor's Office in Bolton town centre.
