MY family and I are fortunate to live in the very pleasant Smithills area of Bolton.
We have good neighbours, many varied leisure opportunities, efficient council services, and tree-lined open spaces to enjoy -- a safe and secure area indeed -- or is it?
About a week ago, our eldest daughter was alone in her house, her car parked on the drive. Sitting in her lounge after lunch, she gradually realised that she wasn't alone. Someone had entered her house and was systematically ransacking the upstairs bedrooms. Fortunately she is unhurt, but is shaky and shocked.
A few days later, our youngest daughter went to the park. She and her young children were in a "safe", enclosed area, enjoying the sand and the swings. Much to her disbelief she saw someone walking away, pushing her son's pram! My daughter ran after her and managed to get her son's pram back.
What is happening in Bolton? Why does someone break into a house in broad daylight while there is obviously someone at home? And why does someone steal a pram when the owner is known to be a few metres away? Within a few days, our confidence in Bolton has been tested. Can anyone explain what is happening in this once proud and secure town?
