Wanderers climbed off the bottom of the Premiership with a gritty 1-0 victory over Aston Villa at sun-drenched Reebok.
Wanderers went into the clash knowing first victories for West Brom and Birmingham yesterday had put even more pressure on the club at the basement.
Manager Sam Allardyce knew that with games against Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal to come it was vital Wanderers open their account after two disappointing defeats.
And man of the match Youri Djorkaeff responded with an inspiring performance, while Michael Ricketts scored the vital second-half penalty which eventually separated the two sides.
It was nail-biting stuff, and not just for the fans at the Reebok. The match was shown on Premiership Plus, Sky's Pay-For-View channel, who suffered "horrendous" technical problems - and lost pictures and commentary for almost all of the last 20 minutes!
