POLICE have named a teenager killed when a motor bike he was riding careered out of control and crashed into a lamp post.
Keith Webster, aged 16, of Long Lane, Breightmet, suffered horrific head injuries in the accident on Waggon Road, less than 400 yards from his home.
A pillion passenger aged 20, also from the Breightmet area, suffered serious chest injuries in the accident just before 6am on Saturday.
The passenger was taken to the Royal Bolton Hospital and was allowed home last night. He was too distraught to speak about the tragedy earlier today.
Police said Keith was riding the Suzuki motorbike along Waggon Road towards Bury New Road. It had no registration plates and both youths were not wearing crash helmets.
The bike swerved across the road after Keith lost control and ploughed into the lamp post at the Waggon Road junction with Mobberley Road. Local residents ran out to help, but the teenager was already dead.
Police accident investigators were today probing the causes of the crash. Witnesses or anyone with information are asked to contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
