FAMILIES in Adlington have told the council they do not want a car park to be built on the King George V playing fields.
It was hoped a new car park could ease congestion on Chorley Road on match days when football and rugby players park their cars on both sides. But residents who live on the perimeter of the playing fields were worried about the possible increase in noise.
Households on Daisy Hill Drive and Harding Street will now be sent questionnaires to find out what they think can be done to ease congestion.
There is already a limited number of parking spaces near to the playing fields, but these are often taken up quickly by players.
David Jones, from Chorley Borough Council, said: "Residents were worried about cars being parked behind their houses, and the noise that it could cause. We are now looking at other options."
Adlington Town Council will be liaising with the borough council once all the questionnaires have been sent back.
