CYCLE lanes -- wasted road space?
I am a motorist and a cyclist who uses cycle lanes when available and not blocked by parked cars and trucks etc.
I agree with some of the comments made by Andrew Mack, but disagree with his line "Common sense seems to have deserted town planners". Yes, cycle lanes are a good idea, but in the right places, not on narrow roads and not outside people's houses where they need to park their cars. What has happened to the old cycling proficiency test? I think educating cyclists through schools at an early age should be made compulsory, as is the requirement for other road users through lessons and a test.
Cyclists must take responsibility for their own actions. I have lost count of the number who ride without lights and reflective vests at night.
