BOLTON Golf Association Juniors were pipped at the post by rivals South Lancashire in the Lancashire inter-regional final at Mytton Fold, Whalley.
The morning foursomes were a close affair with Bolton losing 4-2, three of the matches decided on the 18th hole.
Winning pairs were M Hearn (Chorley) and Matthew Walsh (Dunscar) plus Chris Seddon (Old Links) and Marcus Dunning (Bolton).
In the afternoon singles captain Simon Walsh led the way with a 2&1 win but their lack of strength in depth told and their opponents edged them out 7-5 in the singles for an overall score of 11-7.
Seddon added to his foursomes success by winning 4&2 but despite five matches going to the last hole it was not Bolton's day. If John Cheetham and Peter Finch had been available, two of their lowest handicap players, the outcome may have been different.
Bolton line-up: S Walsh, M Dunning (Bolton), M Hearn, A Atherton, M Dewitt (Chorley), I Marks, McNulty, Foulkes (Gt Lever), J Morissey, D Hunt (Regent Pk), M Walsh, A Brindle (Dunscar), C Seddon (Old Links), I Gregory (Westhoughton).
Earlier a weakened team had overcame the odds to make the final with a superb 12-6 victory over Fylde at Gt Lever.
Five of the 14 strong team came from the home club and local knowledge played its part as the morning foursomes were halved but the singles went Bolton's way by 9-3.
The inter-club final takes place at Old Links on Sunday 2.30pm involving Chorley, Great Lever and Harwood.
