MOTORISTS have been warned to expect delays between Bolton and Leigh this weekend due to road works.
Drivers travelling on the Leigh-Atherton-Bolton route will find restrictions in force from Friday night at the Four Lane Ends junction with the A6 at Manchester Road while the carriageway is being repaired and resurfaced.
Through traffic will be allowed from Newbrook Road to St Helens Road but will be barred from turning right or left on to the A6.
The work will be carried out mostly overnight from 7pm to 7am on Friday and Saturday but there will be daytime work on Sunday.
Diversions will be in force via Watergate Lane, Plodder Lane, Hulton Lane and Wigan Road.
A Bolton Council spokesman said: "We have chosen to do the works overnight to minimise inconvenience to people.
"The road is in a very poor condition at the junction and we have been looking for some time at ways of tackling the work without causing too much disruption."
Warning signs informing motorists of the £90,000 resurfacing scheme have been put up and diversion signs will be installed.
The work is being managed by Bolton Council Highways Management and the contractors are John Hopkins Ltd.
