PLANS to build bus lanes and a park and ride car park in Worsley as part of the Leigh to Manchester guided busway scheme were due to be decided today.
Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Executive (GMPTE) has applied to Salford Council for permission to build a 273 space car park at the junction of the A580 and M60.
The second application is to build bus lanes between Newearth Road and the East Lancashire Road in Worsley.
Both are part of the £26 million guided busway scheme which has not yet been approved.
Tonight Salford Council were considering the two plans, which were recommended for approval despite several objections.
Groups including Moorside South Residents Association and Worsley Civic Trust and Amenity Society objected to the park and ride claiming it would increase traffic problems.
The council got 20 letters objecting to the bus lanes on issues including increased pollution and noise, loss of wildlife, and extra traffic.
GMPTE officials say that the scheme will alleviate traffic congestion by encouraging more people to use the new faster bus routes.
