A PIONEERING Bolton scheme to teach kids how to cope in a crisis has been so successful that the idea is spreading.
In July the fire and ambulance services, police, council and other agencies combined forces to give nearly 700 local children hands-on experience of emergency situations. The idea proved such a hit that children in Rochdale are to be given the same opportunity, and other areas in Greater Manchester want to follow suit.

PENSIONERS' champion Jack Jones launched a three-point drive for a better deal for Britain's old people at the TUC Congress in Blackpool today. He urged the Government to agree to pensions at 60, a special winter bonus, and higher basic pensions. He said: "Old people on basic pensions are condemned to live below the poverty line; the pensioner has little muscle - only the power of protest." He suggested £35 a week for a married couple, and £23 for a single pensioner.

AN almost new single-decker motor-coach, owned by the Lancashire United Transport Company, was stolen from Moor-lane bus station, Bolton, between 8.20 pm last night and 12.20 am today. It is valued at over £3,000. The vehicle was reported to have been seen passing the Walkden War Memorial, and police forces throughout the County have been notified. It is expected that the coach will be found abandoned in some back street or country district.
