Chester City v Leigh RMI preview by Martyn Hindley

Leigh RMI could pay the price for having a small squad tonight as their injury-hit outfit make the short journey to Chester City.

The Railwaymen were impressive in midweek despite losing 4-2 at Southport but several question marks over fitness remain for the trip to the Welsh border.

The scorers of spectacular goals in midweek, Gerry Harrison and Phil Salt will both have to prove that they have recovered from knee injuries if they are to start the match, while full-backs Dominic Ludden and Chris Cornelly are both doubts with hamstring strains.

If neither can climb off the treatment table, Paul Williams will make his league debut for the club after joining from Ilkeston Town in the summer.

Steve Waywell's men are yet to score a point on their travels this term but they have made creditable 1-1 draws in their last two Conference visits to the Deva Stadium.

Last year, Michael Twiss was on the mark for the Railwaymen but he will line up for the Bluebirds tonight after his summer transfer left RMI striking options thin on the ground.

Yet Waywell is confident that his side can bounce back from their midweek disappointments: "We played our hearts out at Southport and I cannot fault the lads at all. To lose those two offside goals just before half-time was heartbreaking but we out-played them for most of the match and now it's just a case of getting on with the next game.

"We have played some good football so far this season so there is nothing to worry about. The only bad half we have played was at Woking but we have learned from that. I'm sure that if we play to our potential tonight we can take something from the game."

Kick-off at the Deva Stadium is at 7:45pm.
