THE first inter-club match was held for junior crown green bowlers -- and they were bowled over with its success.
A junior team from Kearsley Park Veterans' Bowling Club enjoyed an afternoon's competitive play with St Mary's Bowling Club at Walkden.
St Mary's won the match but trophies were awarded to individual bowlers from both teams.
Edith Wadley, from Kearsley Park, said: "The day was brilliant -- St Mary's made us so welcome and provided us with a great buffet. It was a pleasure to spend a day with such a lot of happy children." Since the Bolton Evening News highlighted the junior bowlers at the Kearsley club, Mrs Wadley reports that they have had a "terrific response" from the public and inquiries from other bowling clubs hoping to launch junior sections.
