MYTHAM Ladies put newly promoted Tonge Fold in their place with a 152-135 win in the opening game in the John Smiths Farnworth Winter Rounders League.
Hanson beat Siddons by an almost identical score and Darcy were comfortable winners against Adlington.
In Section B, Bolton Motor Bodies recorded a narrow seven run win over Advance Computer Systems, while a depleted Tonge Moor Conservative Club built on a two-run interval lead to beat Church Inners (formerly The White Horse) by eight.
Before start of play, The Grapes expressed disbelief at being placed in Section B, but they lost by 23 runs to The Volunteer who had expressed relief at being in that Section. The remaining match saw Capital (formerly SAP Ladies) beat Carl Chapman.
Last season's Halliwell League champions, Morris Roofing, complained because they were top seeds for this season, claiming the loss of key players had made them less competitive, however, they gave Farmers XI a 50-run start and still won by 33 runs, having dismissed them in 27 of a possible 33 good balls in the first innings and 21 in the second.
RESULTS - Section A: Adlington 105 Darcy 143; Siddons 135 Hanson 150; Tonge Fold XI 135 Mytham Ladies 152; Royal Hotel conceded to Imago.
Section B: Advance Computer Systems 162 Bolton Motor Bodies 169; Capital 168 Carl Chapman 146; The Grapes 116 The Volunteer 139; Church Inners 154 Tonge Moor CC 166.
