RAMSBOTTOM teenager John Simpson has been called into the England Under-15 cricket squad and is preparing for a busy few months ahead.
The 14-year-old St Gabriel's RC High School pupil will be attending nets at Old Trafford and Edgbaston on a regular basis between October and April next year as the England youngsters keep things ticking over during the close season.
John has played for Lancashire from Under-11 through to the Under-15s and is wicketkeeper with the Haslingden first team in the Lancashire League.
It's not difficult to see where John gets his talent from, as his father, Jack, was a long-time skipper of Ramsbottom Cricket Club, who also play in the Lancashire League.
Jack was also involved in lacrosse in the Manchester area, but plays neither now. "I concentrate on golf," he said modestly.
