THE Mayor of Bolton dropped into a 100th birthday party held at a Bolton care home.
Hannah Garforth celebrated her century at a party at Queensdale Care Home, Chorley New Road, which was attended by the town's first citizen Cllr John Walsh.
Hannah, whose maiden name is Hulme, was born in Aspull, Wigan. She was the third eldest daughter and had seven sisters and one brother.
She spent most of her life in Bolton and had various jobs as a girl. She worked at the Walter Tonge Brewery in Blackshaw Lane, then as a ladies outfitter at Jones's in Bolton, before starting work at Bolton Co-op, which stood on the site now occupied by Argos.
Widow Hannah, was married to Jack (John Henry). She lost her first child, before he was a year old. She has one son Albert, aged 73, who lives in Deane and has two grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
