BOLTON Council is playing host to the town's greatest indoor dog show in the sports hall at Deane Community Leisure Centre on New Year's Day, starting at 10 am.
This well-established show, run by the Bolton Canine Society, was originally held at Bolton Sports Centre until the centre closed. It was transferred to the Deane centre and has proved to be very popular, with more than 800 people attending the society's two shows each year.
Bolton Canine Society says the 165-class show, covering 42 different breeds of dogs and 12 variety classes, is expected to be bigger and better than ever and is the only dog show in the North of England on New Year's Day.
The show, which started more than 100 years ago, offers an opportunity to see up to 500 pedigree dogs competing for prestigious titles, including Best of Breed.
Best in Show category is usually between 3pm and 4pm and automatically qualifies the winner for Crufts 2003. There are cash prizes and trophies for Best in Show, Reserve Best in Show, Best Puppy in Show and Reserve Best Puppy in Show. This exciting event is open to all the family at a small charge and refreshments will be available. There will also be a raffle and tombola stall.
For further information and an entry form contact show organiser Michael Hardman on 01772 615824, or reception at Deane Community Leisure Centre on 01204 334432 (after 5pm). All entries must be in by December 1.
