SUPERMARKET workers in curly wigs and false moustaches were today leading a campaign to save TV soap Brookside from the axe.
Staff at the Asda store in St Helens, Merseyside, were asking customers to sign a petition supporting the "Calm Down Channel 4" campaign.
The wigs and moustaches were a tribute to early Brookside characters Barry Grant and Terry Sullivan.
Store manager Sonia Owen said: "Colleagues and customers alike were devastated to hear that Brookside may disappear from our screens at the end of next year.
"Hopefully the campaign will result in Asda persuading Channel 4 to Keep The Close'."
Last week it was revealed that Channel 4 bosses are moving the Liverpool drama to Saturday afternoons. TV insiders believe the soap will be axed next year.
