PLANS to hold an official opening of a Horwich play area have been shelved in favour of a celebratory fun day.
Bolton Council earmarked £350,000 to be awarded to eight sites throughout the borough, many of which were totally rebuilt.
The area at Ainsworth Avenue, on the Brazley estate, was highlighted by the council and transformed with the help of £34,000. Cash cuts in the past have meant that the council have not been in a position to make vital repairs to may of the town's parks.
But now the land at the Horwich park has now been levelled off and the safety surface replaced, along with brightly coloured play equipment.
The official opening was planned for today but final arrangements for the fun day are being made for the near future.
