SECOND placed Ramsbottom A clinched a narrow 5-4 victory in the big game of the Premier Division against third placed Farnworth A.

Cricketers also won by the same scoreline against Lostock despite three wins by Steve Stringer while Little Lever A recorded a comfortable 7-2 win at Mosses which included a treble by Graham Jeffries.

Division One leaders Hilton B maintained their good form with an 8-1 win over Little Lever B and a treble by Kevin Chapman for Carlton helped them to a 6-3 victory at Mosses which moved them into second place.

Chorley Old Road beat Heaton A 5-4 despite a treble by John Scowcroft while Wharton B staged a magnificent recovery by winning the last four sets to clinch a 5-4 win at Ladybridge.

Nomads A proved too strong for Heaton B with a comfortable 7-2 win with trebles for Dennis Collier and Sean Toland.

Top of the Second Division Heaton C comfortably beat bottom team Hilton C 8-1 and Ramsbottom C move to second spot after their 6-3 win at Halliwell Meths. Mel Brooks trebled for Egerton Park but his team went down 5-4 at BEN A.

Ian Lansdale trebled for Little Lever in their win against Ladybridge as did Gareth Palmer for Nomads who beat Rushtons, three wins apiece by Geoff and Rob Hall for Halls who won at Heaton D.

Ramsbottom D go joint top of the Third Division with Hilton D who they beat 5-4 thanks to three wins by John Taylor. A two man Ladybridge D won 6-3 against Hilton G and Alan Crompton trebled for Heaton E who lost 5-4 to Ladybridge C.

Trebles by Colin Thornley and Dave Marland for Hilton E who won 7-2 at Ellesmere and for Mark Martin and Martin Archer for Little Lever who won 8-1 at Hilton H.

Despite losing 5-4 to Heaton G YMCA retain top spot in Division Four, Brian Lomax trebled for the winners. Stu Burton trebled for Ellesmere B and Stephen Ross and Mark Greenhalgh had maximum wins for Hilton K and Heaton F.
