From the Evening News, October 20, 1992 - FIREMEN have spent more than 12 hours fighting another major blaze at the derelict Atlas Mill in Chorley Old Road, Bolton.
Local residents claim that their lives are being made a misery by frequent fires, which engulf the neighbourhood in acrid black smoke. Today, the company demolishing the mill, Forshaw's of King Street, Westhoughton, denied they were to blame for the fires. They claimed local children were responsible.

PLANS have been approved for an impressive mosque, with a large dome and minaret, to be built in Bolton. Work on the red brick £150,000 building will start in January on empty land in the Prospect Street/Progress Street area. When completed, it will be the first purpose-built mosque in the whole area. The Muslim community has converted other buildings, including ones at Peace Street and Blackburn Road, to provide places of worship.

SECRETS of the 1953 models with which British car manufacturers will challenge the world in an effort to step up the export figures were disclosed today at Earl's Court. The accent at the Motor Show this year is on comfort and running economy. Nearly every manufacturer has built in new features to make motoring more comfortable and cheaper, including higher efficiency engines to give more miles to the gallon, bigger boots, better rust-proofing, and standard built-in heating sets.

WITH the hope of cultivating an interest in the culture of flowers, the Committee of the Horticultural and Chrysanthemum Society have kindly granted permission to the Queen-st. Mission to take the poor children attending the Ragged School and the free dinners to see the flower show in the Albert Hall on Saturday, Nov. 8th. No doubt the privilege will be highly appreciated by the youngsters.
AT the Old Bailey today, three prisoners were sentenced to four years' penal servitude and 15 strokes from the cat for robbery with violence on an elderly man in Southwark. One exclaimed: "Oh, don't have me flogged. I am in a delicate state of health."
