A TEENAGER who died when the car he was a passenger in was catapulted into the air and landed on its roof has been named by police.
Andrew James Whitby, aged 18, from Skipton Close, Bury, was thrown 20 feet from the car in Bradshaw Road early on Friday. Police said it was thought the driver had been overtaking another car when he lost control on a bend.
The 19-year-old driver, from Ramsbottom, had several fingers amputated at the scene after being cut free from the wreckage. He was taken to Bury's Fairfield Hospital for treatment. A second passenger, aged 19, from Bury, was treated for serious back injuries.
