PLANS for the £300,000 refurbishment of Chorley Railway Station have been revealed.

Work to start in February will involve a complete overhaul of the interior and exterior of the building.

Architects designing the new look station are Strzala Associates Architects of Manchester, who are also overseeing the renovation of the bus station which will be opened in December.

The refurbished railway station will include a new entrance and the waiting room and ticketing area will be enlarged.

There will also be a new customer toilet and improved pedestrian routes around the station.

New traffic calming measures will be brought in around the station to improve pedestrian safety.

There will also be new cycle lockers and a redesigned external area promoting controlled use of the adjacent areas and preventing parking.

Gary Seed, architect for Strzala Associates, said: "The proximity of the new bus station, the accessibility between bus and rail stations and a combined visual appearance will, together, provide a public transport interchange in its truest sense."
