Uni gets £1m award
LANCASTER University has been awarded £1 million to head a research centre that will aim to discover why adults find it difficult to return to school.
Up to 7 million people in the UK have problems with reading and writing, and staff at the university say their research centre will reduce that number.
The project will help the Government reach its targets of improving numeracy and literacy of 750,000 adults by 2004.
Prof David Barton at the university said there are many new methods to use.
