Warrington 22, Tyldesley 12: SO far this season Tyldesley RU have been spared cpntroversies from the man with the whistle.

However, that all changed in their Lancashire Trophy game at Warrington.

The official, on exchange from the Zululand RFU in South Africa, penalised Tyldesley out of a game they had controlled for the first 50 minutes.

An excellent try from centre Andy Dickinson was followed by a kick and chase try from brother Mark to put Tyldesley 12-6 up at the break.

However, the referee's offside decisions, plus his failure to act on what appeared to be infringements by the home side, allowed Warrington to sneak back into the game with a further two penalties and a try from a five-metre scrum.

The now continuous stream of penalties pegged Tyldesley back into their own half before the final whistle brought Warrington an unlikely victory.

On Saturday Tyldesley travel to leaders Oldham for a crunch league game.

Tyldesley Knights put neighbours Leigh to the sword in the 2nd XV League game at St.George's Park.

The 45-10 victory was based around an exceptional first half performance which saw tries for Steve Palin (2), Dave Goulbourne and James Eckersley.

The second period saw Tyldesley let their guard down to allow the visitors two unconverted tries, but a ten minute purple patch saw further scores from Dean Waterworth, Liam Mountford and Goulbourne again.

Stand off Fraser Mackintosh added the rest of the points with his boot.

The win over Leigh put Tyldesley in second place in the league with leaders Oldham travelling to St.George's this Saturday.

Tyldesley Dragons met an in form Leigh side but put in a good performance before going down.
