PENSIONERS and people on benefits will be able to have their dogs fitted with a free identity chip at road shows in Bolton.

The offer is part of the National Canine Defence League's chipping campaign following the regional launch at the Reebok Stadium earlier this year.

The tiny implant means that dog and owner can easily be reunited if the pet is found wandering the streets.

And it will cost those having to pay for the chipping £9.50, instead of the usual £12.50.

The microchipping will take place from 10am --4pm at Safeway, on Bury Road, on Monday, November 4; Netto, St Helens Road on Tuesday, November 5; Morrisons, Chorley Old Road on Wednesday, November 6 and at B & Q/Topp's Tiles, on Crompton Way on Thursday, November 7.

Owners must take along proof that puppies have been fully inoculated and owners who are receiving benefit must also produce proof before they qualify for the free chip.
