THE schoolchildren who took an unlikely musical tribute to "matchstalk men" artist L S Lowry to the top of the charts have been asked to recreate their performance -- as adults -- more than 30 years later.
As pupils at St Winifred's School, Stockport, they provided the backing vocals for "Matchstalk Men and Matchstalk Cats and Dogs", in 1978.
They have been asked to reform to perform at the country's biggest amateur choir competition at the Lowry Centre in the artist's home town of Salford next month.
