THE overnight sharp frost on Saturday night had a drastic affect on catches especially on Bury canals.
On Sunday, the Bury Society fished the October Cup on Parkers with some quite good results. Pegged on both sides the best results came from the deep water sections, whilst those pegged in the shallow had to be content with the odd fish.
Top weight fell to Ron Buckley pegged on the stillages with two quality bream backed up with skimmers 6-4-0. In second place despite losing a quality fish on a snag (possibly a sunken straw bail net) he had one quality bream plus skimmers 5-5-0. Section winners Roy Gough 5-4-0 and Walt Gregson 4-7-0.
In the third round of the Mossila Winter League (Penine Division) fished on the Rochdale Canal at Hebden Bridge on Sunday, fished by 102 anglers on a frost affected canal in which local squad Fishermans Way field a six man squad.
Top Individual, Stewart Campbell (Teck Nick Trabucco) with a quality bream 3-1-0, in second place Wayne Preston (Masks Tackle) with all roach catch to 2g 2-6-8, third Lennie Fosdyke (Rochdale Angling) 2-5-0.
After three rounds Teck Nick Trebucco, Halifax head the league with 190 points, Fishermans Way and Tri Cast Rochdale Black tie for second place with 189 points.
Scapa Porritt AC fished the George Lomax Cup on the Leeds Liverpool Canal at Clayon-le-Moors on Sunday. The overnight frost had a drastic affect on catches, very small roach featured. Top weight fell to Tony Thorp (six fish) a tie for second place between Geoff Palmer, Alan Waters and Lawrence Whittles, three fish each.
