FORMER Wanderers boss Bruce Rioch has said that young midfielder Kevin Nolan has a "great deal" to offer both his club and his country.

Nolan has been a key member of Sam Allardyce's sqaud for the last two years and Rioch, who managed Bolton from 1992 until 1995, believes he will only get better.

But Rioch warns that the England under-21 star is the type of player that must maintain his fitness to ensure he retains his effectiveness.

He says: "Kevin has terrific potential but he must always make sure he is in the best condition so that he can continue going from box to box being a handful.

"He has a lot going for him as a very talented young man who has a great deal to offer his club and country.

"As a former midfield player I instantly like what I see in this lad because he has a great deal going for him and wants to make his mark.

"Kevin is an intelligent lad and I'm sure Sam Allardyce and Phil Brown are giving him great advice.

"He could be even more of a threat if he could get his head onto the ball from set pieces. It's something to work on and would make him an even better player.

"However, he is good on the ball, he is an excellent passer and at 20 has much to offer."
