Horwich RMI Harrier Men's Veteran Team became British Fell Relay Champions after finishing first veteran team in the 14th British Fell and Hill Running Relay Championships.
The event was staged at Langdale Valley, and the Harriers were also up against the cream of British fell runners.
Running on Leg 1 (four mile/2000ft) for the Harriers Veteran A team was England International Steve Barlow. Steve had been forced to pull out of a cross-country race the previous weekend due to a hamstring injury.
Unfortunately this flared up again during the race, but he bravely battled on to finish the leg in 20th place (first vet, 39.45).
Leg 2, a 5.5 mile/2500ft route run in pairs, saw Graham Schofield and Nigel Clementson run strongly keeping Horwich at the front in 46.23.
Tony Hesketh and Mark Seddon ran a superb Leg 3 (56.22, 5th fastest vets), but the Harriers trailed the leading veteran team by some 40 seconds at the start of the final leg.
Running on this pressure stage, a 4.5 mile/2000ft route, was England International Steve Jackson.
He ran a blinder (45.18, fastest vet) as he surged into the lead and won by 1min and 40secs from the second veteran team.
The Burnden 10K Road Race took place last Sunday with the Harriers determined to secure several league victories.
In the race itself Rob Jackson had a great run as he finished third overall, with team mates Nigel Clementson coming in sixth (first V40) and Dave Townsend in seventh .
