IN the Bolton Evening News on October 18, Cllr P Brierley was reported to have said that he has a dossier of 12 current and former Town Hall employees who daily experience bullying, victimisation, discrimination and sexual harassment.

Many female members of staff feel they cannot turn to anyone, they feel they are working in a cesspit of immorality, he goes on to say. He also claims that employees are drinking alcohol while at work.

So what does the councillor do about it? Answer: nothing! "One cannot imagine what these ladies have gone through and are in fact still going through," he states. So does he act immediately to make sure they don't suffer one minute longer than is necessary? No. He does nothing until the next council meeting (they are held once every eight weeks) where he can stand and make a grandstand display.

He said that the victims have no one to turn to, yet apparently they turned to him, and he set nothing in motion to stop the alleged harassment.

It could be of course that any improper behaviour by council employees has been grossly exaggerated. The matter should be properly investigated to remove the slur cast upon the vast majority of hard working, decent people employed at the Town Hall.
