POLICE are urging young women not take short cuts on their own at night after a 22-year-old woman was indecently assaulted in Whitefield.

She was walking down Albert Close when a man approached her from behind and pushed her to a quiet area 200 yards away.

Eventually she fought him off and he ran down Albert Road towards Moss Lane.

A police spokesman said: "The woman was uninjured but she was left extremely shaken and distressed by the assault. We would like to take this opportunity to warn females about the dangers of walking in quiet areas like this on their own at night."

The man who assaulted the woman was white and was between about 5ft 8in and 5ft 10in tall. He was aged between 20 and 25-years-old and had a slim build. He had dark hair, which was short at the sides and long on top, and a pale complexion. He was wearing a dark blue jumper with a logo on the front and the arm, plus navy-coloured jeans and white trainers. Anyone with information about the incident, which occurred at about 6.45pm on Friday, should contact Whitefield CID on 0161 856 8240.
