AN UNUSUAL home offering unique views and a slice of the quiet life is on the market with a £45,000 price tag.
Bolton Council chiefs are offering for sale historic Cemetery Lodge in the middle of Farnworth Cemetery, overlooking graves on two sides.
Now auctioneer Miller Metcalfe in Bolton has valued the property at £45,000 to 55,000 and is preparing to sell it off to the highest bidder at an auction next month.
Auction director Alan McNorton said they were hoping for a good response from buyers looking for something a bit different.
He said: "I think this is definitely the most unusual property we have had, but it's ideal for auction because of its position and condition.
"It does need some work, but I think it will appeal to someone looking for somewhere quiet away from the traffic. Perhaps someone who has hobbies and will enjoy the peace, while still being able to access nearby amenities." The firm in Bradshawgate specialises in auctioning unusual properties and past successes have included a mill and a brewery.
Its latest acquisition has two bedrooms, a hall, a lobby, a large kitchen and two reception rooms as well as a bathroom and toilet.
It has water and electricity, but is not connected to the main sewer and operates from its own sceptic tank at the moment.
The lodge, off Cemetery Road, would have housed the graveyard watchman in the past, but is now owned by the council's housing department.
It has decided to sell the turn-of-the-century stone and slate building after trying with limited success to offer it to tenants.
The auction takes place at David Lloyd Leisure Centre in Chorley Street, on Thursday, November 21, at 2pm.
