Wanderers star Stig Tofting -- jailed for four months in Denmark on assault charges -- has lodged an appeal against his sentence.
The midfielder admitted assaulting two restaurant workers during a trial at the Byrecten, or town court, in Copenhagen two weeks ago.
But this morning -- ahead of a 5pm deadline -- he lodged his appeal.
The soccer star had criticised the sentence after his trial claiming he felt it was "too harsh".
Today his agent, Carsten Aabrink, said Tofting had expected to be jailed for around 30 days, or to be given community service.
Mr Aabrink said: "He was not satisfied with the sentence and he wants the case to be heard at a higher court.
"He made his decision last week but decided not to appeal until today because Bolton were playing last night and he did not want to take media attention away from the team."
Tofting, who appealed by letter, said after the trial that he wanted "time to reflect" before deciding whether or not to lodge an appeal.
Tofting assaulted the two restaurant workers at a party to celebrate Denmark's return from the World Cup earlier this summer.
Tofting, who signed for Wanderers in February 2001 for £250,000 on a two-year contract from German side SV Hamburg, head-butted restaurant manager Patrick de Neef after a row, and also assaulted a chef on the pavement outside the premises. The manager suffered a cut over his eyebrow and was taken to hospital for stitches.
Tofting, who was out with 15 of the 23-strong Danish national team, later apologised to de Neef.
The judge said Tofting committed a serious offence and should go to jail.
