BLACKROD Town and Tempest United both reached the last 32 of the Lancashire Amateur Shield after impressive wins at the weekend.
Blackrod recovered from a shock 18th minute own goal to beat Barrow Celtic 3-2 while Tempest beat Blackburn Combination leaders Ewood Amateurs away 2-1.
Mark Height quickly wiped out Barrow's shock lead when he clinically steered Noel Corrigan's astute through ball past the keeper then Tony Horbury, promoted from the reserves following a consistent scoring spell, added a second goal in the 68th minute.
Barrow looked as if they had forced the tie to a reply when they equalised with a twice taken free kick seven minutes from time but David Sutch took Blackrod into the last 32 heading in Mark Height's injury time corner.
At Blackburn, Tempest took an early lead through Paul Fletcher's header and were made to paid for further missed chances when Ewood equalised two minutes before the break.
Tempest went on to dominate the second half but could not capitalise on their chances and were forced to play extra time.
Fortunately Faizal Mohmed seized the chance to make sure of victory, hitting the winner with a terrific volley.
