Wanderers are set to make a definitive decision on Stig Tofting's future at the club in the next 36 hours.

The midfielder has not been considered for first team duty since he was convicted of assaulting a chef and a restaurant owner in his native Denmark earlier this month.

He was handed a four month jail sentence, but as revealed in later editions of yesterday's Bolton Evening News, Tofting has decided to appeal against the court's decision.

According to his agent, Carsten Aabrink, the player had expected no more than a 60 day sentence.

But according to police sources in Denmark it could be as long as 12 months before the Tofting's appeal is heard, and with just 18 months left on his contract, that could mean that Wanderers will once again look at including him in the first team.

If that is the outcome Tofting could come straight into consideration for the game at Birmingham on Saturday, as he is match fit after turning out in the last two reserves games after training with the rest of the first team.

The club would neither confirm or deny that talks are to take place with the 33-year-old today about his future at the Reebok Stadium.

A spokesman said: "We are looking to issue a statement in the next 36 hours, which will include a decision on the player's availability for the game against Birmingham and beyond."
