FOLLOWING the recent letters and article over the speed humps that are due to be introduced on Aintree Road, may I express my opinion as a parent and also as a nurse at a local children's hospital.

Aintree Road is on the "racecourse" estate and some people literally use it as a race course, especially at the weekends and at night; drivers speed down in excess of the 30mph speed limit.

As a parent and a nurse, my concerns are that an innocent child will end up being injured as a result of the speeding traffic. When Church Street closes at the weekend, the traffic is going to escalate further, and the risk to lives will be higher due to the complaints made that have resulted in the delay of the speed humps.

Mytham Road end of Aintree Road is also used for children who go to Mytham School, so their lives will be at risk crossing the road if people are allowed to speed down Aintree Road.

As a nurse I have seen the result of innocent children who have been knocked over and the impact that this has on their future and their family's future. It is not very pleasant and, in this case, could be avoided. What is worth more, people's lives or a vintage car or the appearance of these humps?
