THE final wishes of a former Mayor of Adlington will be realised tomorrow at Chorley Hospital.
Idris Reece -- known as Ted -- who died in February came up with the idea of donating an Adlington coat of arms to the hospital's Adlington ward.
Ted served as town mayor on several occasions and was a long-standing member of Adlington Town Council.
While undergoing treatment at the hospital during his final illness he noticed that at least one of the wards named after a parish in Chorley had a coat of arms on the wall.
He thought it would be a good idea to donate an Adlington coat of arms to Adlington Ward and proposed making the donation himself.
He felt such a gesture would be a statement of the strong community links that exist with the hospital and a fitting gesture to the staff.
But he passed away before he could make the presentation.
As it was one of his last wishes, Adlington Town Council approached the hospital through the then chairman of the board, Jim Breakell, who agreed that it would be a splendid gesture.
Jim put the town council in touch with Barry McEwan, the hospital's estates manager, to make the arrangements, which have now been finalised.
The current Mayor of Adlington, Miss June Molyneaux, will unveil a plaque tomorrow, Friday, November 1, at 4.30pm in the presence of Ted's town council colleagues.
Adlington's links with Chorley & South Ribble Hospital have been constant over the years.
Continuing a long annual tradition, Adlington's Carnival queen, princess and rose bud still tour the wards on Christmas Day, together with the Mayor of Chorley and the town's MP.
