POLICE today urged youngsters to take care when knocking on doors during the annual "trick or treat" season.
They also warned parents to be aware of where their children are at all times -- or even accompany them.
A police spokesman said: "The safety of children should always be the most important issue."
Vulnerable and elderly residents are also urged to remain vigilant and not to allow callers into their homes.
Police say doorstep conmen are known to take advantage of the "trick or treat" pastime.
The spokesman added: "People should never open their doors to anyone they are unsure of."
