SCORES of Halliwell residents joined forces and spent a day planting bulbs and cleaning up rubbish to improve their neighbourhood.
About 50 people from the Brooklyn Street area in Halliwell worked together to give their local streets a makeover.
The Mayor, Cllr John Walsh, and Bolton Council leader Bob Howarth also lent a hand. Residents mucked in to tidy up ground level flower beds and planted bulbs, enjoying a buffet while they worked. Children were treated to face painting and goody bags.
The event was organised by the residents association, Bolton Community College Regeneration Unit and the council.
Norman Farrimond, secretary of the Brooklyn Street Residents Association said: "It went much better than expected. We thought about 30 people would turn up but on the day 50 came.
"We are thinking about having another day again in the spring or summer."
